At SEWN, we offer small classes in a sunny and intimate sewing studio in Downtown, Gainesville. Get inspired by fashion design while learning to sew with a patient and experienced instructor. We aim to give our students the confidence and skills to sew their dream wardrobe!
Intro to Sewing
Perfect for beginners who want to learn the basics of sewing from an experienced and patient teacher. We'll cover safety, sewing machine anatomy, threading the machine and bobbin, troubleshooting, handling fabrics, and sewing techniques. Students leave Intro to Sewing with the knowledge to dust off their sewing machines and start stitching!
Garment Sewing 101
This 2-hour class is designed to build on the skills learned in Intro to Sewing and introduce students to sewing with patterns and beginner construction techniques. Students will get a broad overview of sewing from commercial flat patterns and will learn several foundations of sewing apparel like sewing two pieces of fabric together with seam allowance, french seams, hemming, gathering, seam finishes, and more. Class sizes are small and intimate with a maximum of 4 students.
Learn to Sew Lingerie: Bikini with Fold Over Elastic
Get started sewing lingerie by making your very own jersey bikini with fold over elastic trim. This class is designed to build on the skills learned in Intro to Sewing & Garment Sewing 101. We will learn to cut a bikini panty pattern from stretch fabric, use a serger to put your panty together, and sew fold over elastic on the sewing machine. Cost includes sewing pattern, fabric, elastic, thread and light refreshments.
Beginner's Embroidery with Nico
Over the course of 2.5 hours, embroideress Nico Mazza will teach 7-10 commonly used embroidery stitches and guide students through embroidering an image. Fabric, embroidery floss, needles and hoops will be provided during the class, and students will get to take their finished piece home.
